New insights

Over the past few weeks as I have been exploring creativity and reflecting on how I utilise it in my day to day life, my biggest insight is the importance of allowing myself the time to play.

I become so focused on achieving the next thing and doing that I miss a critical part of life. David Beckham plays with Lego, David Cameron plays Angry birds and Ellen DeGeneres playfully pranks her friends (Wallace 2017) and it's not just in the stories of the successful but the evidence is also well documented.

Play reduces stress, enhances productivity, enhances learning and contributes to overall wellbeing (Wallace 2017). When we’re low on play our minds and bodies notice (Wallace 2017) and on reflection I can see this impacting my decisions and my mood.

The reduced stress that results from play would allow my mind to open more and produce broader more creative solutions and it would also make the process a lot less stressful.

This is absolutely something that I am going to practically implement from this unit and I am confident it is forever going to benefit my day to day life and expand my potential for creativity.
